On Friday evening at around 7:30 pm IST an Air India Express flight IX 1344 under Vande Bharat mission with 191 people on board overshot the runway, fell into a valley, and broke into two killing over 18 people including both the pilots.
According to FlightRadar24, a flight-tracking website, the aircraft circled the airport several times and made two unsuccessful attempts to land amid the heavy rainfall in the area.
According to Air India, There were a total 174 passengers, including 10 infants and 6 crew members, including two pilots, onboard Dubai-Kozhikode Air India flight (IX-1344) that skidded during landing at Kozhikode runway.
Since, the plane did not catch fire helped preventing a bigger tragedy.
What exactly happened.
The Air India Express flight IX 1344 operated by B737 aircraft was coming from Dubai to Calicut
According to Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, the aircraft went down 35 feet into a slope. Then broke into two peices.
According to reports, most of the passengers were stranded visitors and those who had lost their jobs
The Kozhikode airport has a tabletop runway, because of which the aircraft after skidding off, fell to the valley.
An NDRF team was rushed to the spot for search and rescue operation.
According to the authorities, most of the people on board have been evacuated and 112 of them were rushed to the hospital.
Plane crashes have happened before, in the monsoon season (June to September) and wreaks havoc across South Asia every year.

An exactly same incident also happened In May 2010. When an Air India Express flight overshot Mangalore airport runway and plunged into a steep gorge. Later bursting into flames, killing 158 of a total of 166 people on board
Moreover, the Serbian pilot, Zlatko Glusica, was blamed for being slept in the mid-flight
A similar incident happened in July 2019 in Mangalore.
When an Air India Express flight carrying 183 passengers from Dubai skidded off a runway at Mangalore airport. However, the pilot managed to steer it into a muddy patch of grass. Henceforth preventing a major accident.
The Airline officials blamed “tailwind and a wet runway” for the incident.
The Mangalore airport also have a tabletop runway because things get worse in these types of situations.

similarly, a Ukrainian airplane carrying 176 people crashed on January 2020 after takeoff from Tehran’s main airport, killing all on board. The plane carried 167 passengers and nine crew members from different nations on its flight to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
